A cinematic short film exploring our relationship with nature through art direction, atmosphere, and perspective

I’ve always been fascinated by how Eastern cultures perceive nature—not as a backdrop, but as something sacred and deeply intertwined with our lives. That contrast with the Western view became the foundation of the piece: nature as something we’ve learned to overlook, rather than feel.

Through visual storytelling without words, I shaped a visual journey that moves between two emotional states: an overwhelming, isolating city and a calm, immersive natural world. The story unfolds in first person, placing the viewer at the center, making the experience more intimate and personal.

Inspired by Miyazaki’s quiet, observational storytelling, I focused on creating moments that feel lived-in rather than staged. Natural sound replaces music, allowing the visuals to breathe and drawing attention to stillness, detail, and atmosphere. The goal was to recreate that sense of peace and presence in a fully 3D environment.

At its core, the film reflects on how deeply nature affects our physical and mental well-being. Rather than addressing climate change in an obvious way, I wanted to approach it emotionally by showing what we lose when we disconnect from nature, and why it’s worth protecting.

The visual language follows a clear transition: from density to openness, from stress to calm, from feeling small and disconnected to feeling grounded and in harmony. The journey ends in a natural setting, surrounded by warmth and human connection—shifting the narrative from isolation to belonging.

Alongside this, there’s a subtle integration of Geodesic.Life, a brand that promotes sustainable living in nature, woven in as a natural extension of the story rather than a direct message.

The film was developed through a detailed treatment and animatic process to define pacing, rhythm, and visual tone, and was later screened in Karlskrona cinema and at a motion film festival in Malmö.

City scene

I have used free Cargo assets for the houses in the scene. After figuring out blocking and initial camera movement, I went into details, adjusting materials, light, and effects to create the atmosphere of an evening city, a mix of modern and dystopian elements.

Nature scenes

After dominating city we transition into peace. Beauty. Balance. I am going to have several natural scenes, inspired by Studio Ghibli, but in 3D. Slow, calm and relaxing, surrounded by natural sounds.
